Role overview:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be a part of our Continental European Markets & Growth team and will work closely with the partners primarily in Luxembourg but also Brussels, to develop and action strategic initiatives with the ultimate objective of growing revenue in those offices.
 
Main responsibilities :
Strategy & Planning
   » Work with the Luxembourg and Brussels partners to develop the Markets & Growth strategy to maximise opportunities to grow revenue in line with the firm's 2027 strategic plan
   » Work closely with the London Funds, Private Capital, Corporate, Banking and Competition team to support the implementation of those business plans across Europe
   » Working closely with industry teams to promote cross practice and cross office content to clients and markets
   » Coach relevant partners and associates to deliver the business development objectives
   » Develop and lead strategic initiatives to meet the business plan goals, evaluating progress on implementation
   » Provide market information and analysis of financials to identify trends and opportunities to raise our profile and awareness in key markets
 
Opportunity Management
   » Manage and support the entire opportunity pursuit process, including identifying opportunities, managing opportunity tracking processes, preparing client-focused sales collateral and coordinating partners around pipelines
   » Collaborate with other office and industry teams to identify cross-selling opportunities
   » Support all relevant major client opportunities including pitches and proposals, working closely with the Go to Market Innovation team
   » Provide input, as required, on pitches across the Ashurst network
   » Ensure that post matter and broader relationship debriefs are completed for strategically important pitches
 
Practice Management
   » Develop and implement integrated campaigns, thought leadership, events, webinars and other market facing activities, to raise our profile in key markets and win new business
   » Develop and manage the Luxembourg and Brussels BD budgets, monitoring spend and capturing ROI
   » Maintain knowledge of key and emerging issues impacting the teams and their key clients
   » Work with partners and the PR team to manage relationships with the media and proactively seek out the most appropriate press coverage.
   » Share knowledge across the wider CMG and Brand, Marketing and Communications teams (BMC) teams and contribute to functional and firm-wide training programmes
   » Ensure the requirements for data capture are met and coordinate submissions (e.g. experience statements; relevant directory and award submissions; etc.)
   » Contribute to wider CMG team projects, including supporting new systems and processes, as required
 
Client Management
   » Collaborating with our Client Growth & Innovation team (CGI),work on key client relationships and client targeting with a view to increase cross-selling opportunities
   » Develop an in-depth understanding of the key regional clients and their businesses, and assist with the sharing of that information within Ashurst
   » Engage with the Client Listening programme by conducting and capturing client feedback through client listening, matter and pitch debriefs
   » Coordinate and liaise with other CRMs to ensure consistency and sharing of strategic information across clients and industries
 
 
Essential skills and experience
   » Fluent in French and English 
   » Previous experience in a professional services BD environment
   » Demonstrated leadership experience for both coaching teams and managing major projects and/or initiatives 
   » Experience of bid development and management
   » Commercial awareness and an innovative mind-set for developing and evolving ways of working
   » Enthusiastic and proactive, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects and activities
   » Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to effectively interact with peers and influence internal clients including senior stakeholders
   » Strategic thinker with strong focus on execution
   » Team player with the ability to build positive and collaborative working relationships with the CMG & BMC, legal teams and other functions
   » Exceptional eye for detail, able to spot errors and inconsistencies, i.e. strong proofreading skills
   » Highly competent user of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
   » Self-motivated; comfortable working autonomously to deliver the objectives of the role with limited day-to-day supervision
   » Team player, with a strong service excellence ethic and a desire to add value to the firm by improving the quality and usability of best practice materials
   » Qualified to degree level or equivalent
